KIEHLS TEXAS RUN

Kiehls President Chris Salgardo, amfAR CEO Kevin Frost,
Photographer Travis Shinn, Musician Tim Lopez, Actor Gilles
Marini and myself took part in a ride from Austin to Dallas,
Texas to attend the TWO x TWO Gala and auction for Art and Aids
benefitting The Dallas Museum of Modern Art and amfAR.

I was invited to submit a piece for the auction.

I selected a hand finished print that was a version of an original
canvas owned by Chris Salgardo.

Chris was honoured at the Gala for his contribution to the cause.

We stopped along the way at Kiehls stores and a few TV stations to
 raise money and awareness.

The whole event raised over 3 million Dollars for amfAR.

Cool.

TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art is an annual contemporary art
auction held in the Richard Meier-designed Rachofsky House in
Dallas, benefiting two organizations—the Dallas Museum of Art
and amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research.
Thanks to the phenomenal support of the dealer and artist
community, TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art’s annual benefit
gala dinner and art auction has raised over $40 million in its
14-year history in support of amfAR’s AIDS research
initiatives and the DMA’s contemporary art acquisition program.
TWO x TWO is such a successful event because it provides an
opportunity to support two very worthy organizations. amfAR,
the Foundation for AIDS Research, has made great strides in
essential AIDS research initiatives over the last 25 years, and
TWO x TWO has become amfAR’s largest fundraiser in the
United States. The Dallas Museum of Art has added over
150 major works of contemporary art to their permanent
collection with TWO x TWO proceeds donated to their
Contemporary Art Acquisition Fund and exhibitions.
TWO x TWO is also the DMA’s largest annual fundraiser.
Drawing prominent artists, art collectors and philanthropists
from around the world, TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art has
evolved into a week full of social events aimed at recognizing
the progress of amfAR and engaging the arts community here
in Dallas. An eagerly anticipated event that quickly sells out,
the benefit features a seated dinner for 450 guests with both a
live and silent auction of major works of contemporary art and
unique luxury items. The following day, amfAR presents its
Award of Excellence for Artistic Contributions to the Fight
Against AIDS at an intimate luncheon at the home of a Dallas
art collector.
The Saturday night gala and auction, presented in the Richard
Meier-designed Rachofsky House, is conducted by Sotheby’s
Chairman Jamie Niven, and has included celebrities such as Alan
Cumming, Shirley MacLaine, Liza Minnelli, Sharon Stone,
Kenneth Cole, Sigourney Weaver, Barry Manilow, Dita Von
Teese, Stanley Tucci, Natasha Richardson and Cheyenne Jackson.
Renowned artists April Gornik, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha,
Julian Schnabel, Joel Shapiro, Cecily Brown, Tom Friedman,
Elizabeth Peyton, Jim Hodges, Peter Doig, Christopher Wool,
Mark Grotjahn and Richard Phillips have been honored.
TWO x TWO’s 2013 honoree is artist Luc Tuymans.

UNITED STATE

VISCERAL EXPERIENCES OF SPEED AND COLOR
“United State, Selected works by Conrad Leach”
Opening February 9, 2013

Reception: Saturday, February 9, 2013, 6-9pm

(Glendale, CA) – “United State, Selected works by Conrad Leach” expands
upon Leach’s dialogue of the body’s relationship with the machine and the
visceral experience of speed. The physicality of Leach’s painting style and
his use of high pigmented colors depict charged moments saturated with
erotic tension and re-examine the familiar narrative of freedom and the open
road. The meticulous precision of his strokes and use of bright and punchy
colors make it easy to be swept into the canvas. It is clear that Leach comes
to art making via the fashion industry through his culturally driven and energetic
approach. He has shown extensively in London with Gauntett Gallery, where
he resides, and in Tokyo with cafegroove. “United State” is Leach’s first solo
exhibition in the United States, his first in a series at Subvecta Motus Gallery,
and is curated by Stacie B. London.
Subvecta Motus Gallery is an art gallery dedicated to work made by rigorous
process in the 21st century, and focuses on art which questions the relationship
of humans and machines; analogue versus digital. These works make a practice
of finding commonalities between seemingly disparate elements, thereby revealing
delicate narratives. Subtly stirring, the fragile balance between opposites and the
relationships that exist between them, us, and each other is questioned and revealed.
